Jamaica's Olympic Swimming Athlete Alia Atkinson just missed the gold medal in the final of the women's 50 metres breaststroke at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia on Friday.

The English swimmer had a slow start and was towards the back of the field as they came up for air.

However, she cut into Atkinson's lead and timed her touch perfectly to win in 30.60 seconds. pipping the Jamaican just under a fifth of a second.

Atkinson clocked 30.76 seconds, while Australia's Leiston Picket, who entered as the two-time defending champion, finished third for bronze in 30.78.

For the English swimmer she struck gold in only her second major championships.

The 20-year-old made her senior debut at last year’s World Championships when she reached three finals but came away without a medal.
