Sean Paul signals Buju’s planned return

Dancehall sensation Sean Paul last Sunday visited incarcerated fellow top-flight reggae artiste Buju Banton at the McRae Correctional Facility in Atlanta, Georgia, and had encouraging news for Buju’s fans.

The ‘Dutty Rock’ exponent gave details of his exchange with Buju on Instagram and YouTube. He said the fellow Reggae Grammy winner told him that in 14 months’ time – on December 8, 2018, to be exact – he will be back on the road and his fans should "expect greatness again".

Paul said Buju is in good spirits, remains quite focused on his music, and has not been broken by his 10-year prison sentence on cocaine distribution and conspiracy convictions.

Reports indicate that the artiste, born Mark Myrie, has spent much of his time in custody keeping fit, preserving his health, and educating fellow inmates at the correctional facility.

His troubles began in December 2009, when he was arrested. He was convicted in February 2011, and was scheduled to complete his sentence in February 2019.

However, his sentence was reduced by two months in January, 2016, after he agreed to waive all future appeal options to the convictions.

In return too, prosecutors agreed to drop a firearm charge against him.
